NASHVILLE, Tenn.-From The Land of Shadows, the debut recording from singer/songwriter/worship leader Matt Brock, authentically captures one man's journey from pain to joy, from darkness to light. Produced by Brock and Jason Egly, the set features eight songs written or co-written by the artist.
Drawing on Americana and folk influences, From The Land of Shadows highlights Brock's prowess on acoustic guitar, ukulele, keyboard, harmonica and melodica. The recording features "What Great Love" and "Oh My Soul It Faints," both co-written with Brett Rutledge (Aaron Shust, FFH); along with "I'll Do The Same" and "Land of Shadows," co-written with Egly. In addition, Brock penned "You And Virginia" as a tribute to his grandfather's legacy, while "Hole In My Heart" was written about a family who suffered the loss of a baby girl.
"Though all these songs came at different points in the journey, they piece together what I've seen as the major story of my life for the past few years: darkness, though thick and real and wholly unavoidable, must and will give way to the Light of Jesus," Brock says.
"From the distant, Abrahamic promise of 'I'll Do The Same,' to the raw depths of 'You And Virginia' and 'Hole In My Heart,' through the confused, muffled, almost painful praises of 'Run' and 'You Forgive Me Still,' into the blinding heights of 'What Great Love' and 'Oh My Soul It Faints,' and toward the hopeful echoes of 'Land of Shadows,' we walked," Brock continues. "I really feel like we lived these songs."
A 2010 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in engineering, Brock and his wife Jill moved to Nashville where he served as a worship leader at First Baptist Hendersonville. The Brocks currently attend Ekklesia, a church near downtown Nashville.
